Ramapo senior Julia Elliott is certainly a standout artist who has made a tremendous impact among her peers and faculty. She has taken a variety of art classes throughout her four years at Ramapo, and learned a great deal from each of them. Aside from her AP Art class this past year, she felt that her Painting 2 class during her freshman year was the most rewarding. “This class helped me with many mediums, including watercolor and oil painting, which I continued to practice and even use within my portfolio for AP Art,” she says. Julia’s successful and highly regarded AP portfolio was centered around how she views environments as an introvert, as well as memories and places she values. When asked about her classroom experience, she responded, “This class challenged me to explore new art styles, and my own interpretations of art outside of my comfort zone, and was an amazing experience.”
Julia has brought her artistic expression to numerous district and regional art shows and exhibitions, where her accomplishments truly shined. In January, her artwork, titled “Jazz Night” was selected to be featured within Young Expressions, an annual juried exhibition hosted by the Art Center of Northern New Jersey. Senior Iliana Restrepo said, “Julia is super talented. She is the most committed person I’ve seen in the art program here at Ramapo!”
Bringing her personality and views into her work did not go unnoticed, as Ramapo’s AP Art teacher, Mr. Quirk, expresses that “Julia’s work was very mature, beautiful, and moving. She is a remarkable young artist.” He continues, “She taps into her wide range of interests, such as mathematics, jazz, and her unique perceptions of the world through her own lens. The technical skill and artistic vision she employs in her work places her in company with the most talented artists I have ever worked with as both a teacher and a student.”
Post graduation, Julia will be attending Vassar College where she will be working on a double major in Studio Art and Mathematics. Her passion and outstanding talent will be missed at Ramapo, but we know that she has amazing things in store for her bright and promising future!
