Starting at only four years old, Scott Vivinetto has spent the majority of his life dedicated to playing hockey. This year, Scott has not only been playing but leading his team as a captain; his impact has been hard to miss.
Like many skilled athletes, Scott found his love for hockey at a young age. When asked what led Scott to begin playing hockey, he recalls, “I started playing hockey because my parents took me and my brother to a Devils game when we were little, and we both fell in love.” Now, fourteen years later, Scott’s passion for the game has only grown.
The Defenseman has totaled fifteen career goals (six already this season) nineteen career assists, and thirty-four total career points (highschoolsports.nj.com). Balancing being a strong defender and a successful offender is rare. Yet, Scott has proven that he can do both. His efforts have not gone unnoticed either. Last year, Scott was awarded 2nd Team All-County and 1st Team All-Division for his contribution to the Ramapo Ice Hockey Team.
In addition to his role on the Ramapo Ice Hockey Team, Scott also plays on the New Jersey Colonials. His demanding schedule might seem overwhelming and intense, but his skills both on and off the ice show he can manage.
Scott takes his role as captain very seriously, leaving a meaningful and encouraging impact on the entire team. When asked what his leadership role means to him, Scott replied, “Being a captain of the hockey team has made my senior year much more memorable and helped me improve my leadership skills.” Scott’s teammate Theo Herman has played with him for the last few seasons and says that, “Scott fills the role of being a captain because if he sees something wrong, he’s going to help improve your game in a constructive way.” Scott’s leadership has not only earned respect from his teammates but also positively impacted their playing environment.
Scott’s Coach, Mike McClaughlan, has seen Scott develop as a player and a leader during his time on the Ramapo Ice Hockey team. When asked to give a quote about Scott’s leadership style and impact as a captain, he stated, “Scott Vivinetto has been a key part of the Ramapo Ice Hockey team’s success over the past three seasons. As a 3-year varsity starter and this year’s elected co-captain, he has earned the trust of the coaching staff through his consistency, work ethic, and leadership. Scott leads in multiple ways—he can be vocal when needed, but most often sets the standard through his effort and actions both on and off the ice. His versatility and talent as both a forward and a defenseman, along with his willingness to embrace any role asked of him, reflects his team-first mindset and commitment to the success of the program.” Scott has clearly demonstrated great leadership skills, as seen by his coach and teammates.
Although hockey is an incredibly demanding and competitive sport, Scott’s love of the game led him to dedicate his time and efforts on the ice. When asked what his favorite part about playing hockey is, Scott replied, “spending time with my best friends and the intensity of the games.” Even through setbacks like concussions and frustrating injuries, the energy that hockey brings to Scott is something he can never replace. Scott plans on continuing his passion as he will play hockey at the club level wherever he decides to attend college. Rampage congratulates Scott for his hard work and dedication to the Ramapo Ice Hockey team and wishes him luck in the future!
