A few years ago, the ability to use the 300-700 outdoor walkway during passing periods was blocked off. At the time, closing off the access was important for school safety and security, especially as having an ID was not as strict as it is today. Many who used the walkway were upset to take it out of their class-to-class commute, as it saved on time, mainly in the 200s wing hallway.
But starting this month, the ability to use the walkway is now allowed. The change allows for students to get to class faster by diverting traffic. It also is a great way to enjoy the fresh air and warmer weather.
A poll was sent out to students and faculty at Ramapo about their opinions of the change. Around 90% of students and faculty believe that the walkway saves on time and cuts down on the traffic in the 200s wing. Sophomore, Hailey Weber said, “Since September, I have had to go from chemistry, all the way to history. I would have had to explain to my teachers that with the traffic, there is no way I can make it there on time because of the students all going the same way, in one single hallway. Now with the opening, I can make it to class punctually and faster than I have ever before.” This change allows for students to not worry about being tardy to class. Additionally, an anonymous teacher responded to the poll, “If you have a science, art, business class and need to get to World Language, Social Studies, or the lower gym, this is a no brainer. It saves time for students and lessens the traffic in the 200s wing hallway.” The 200s wing hallway is undoubtedly the busiest in the school, and allowing students to use the walkway helps reduce tardiness and allows teachers to maximize class time.
The 300-700 outdoor walkway is a great change to class-to-class commutes. All students are encouraged to try it! Don’t forget your student ID card!
