World renowned Canadian rapper Drake recently made headlines with his release of not one, but three new albums back to back on May 15, 2026: Iceman Habibiti, and Maid of Honour. This surprise release was also Drake’s first solo project since 2023 with the release of For All the Dogs. Across all three albums, Drake released a total of 43 songs featuring artists such as Future, 21 Savage, Central Cee, and PARTYNEXTDOOR (NME). The release of a major project like this certainly sparked varied discussions across media platforms.
Each album explores a slightly different musical genre. Iceman focuses more on the rap and hip-hop aspect of Drake’s music style, while Habibti is considered to be more of an R&B album (Consequence Live). Maid of Honour features more dance inspired tracks with upbeat rhythms and experimental production styles. This variety allows all listeners, new and old, to experience the versatility of Drake’s style.
The release was considered to be a commercial success. Drake was able to break several records, including the record for most No. 1 songs for a solo artist (People). His three albums also debuted at the top of the charts and fans anticipated the release of more upbeat songs. Senior Ashley DeLeo said, “When I first listened to Ice Man, “Dust” caught my attention because of the beat drop and fun background.” Senior Joan Carlilli also stated, “I love Drake and I was excited for his new albums to be released. I haven’t listened to all the songs yet, but I like the vibe of Ice Man the best.” These rankings display Drake’s continuous music domination worldwide.
While fans celebrated the amount of new songs, some critics disagreed, claiming that 43 songs was too many, and that it was overwhelming for listeners (Daily Bruin). A specific ranking from the Daily Bruin rates the album a 2.5/5, stating, “After hinting at “ICEMAN” for months, the new record falls short of the hype. Unfortunately, the majority of the album is bogged down by generic beats, and Drake’s lyrics land with an underwhelming thud.” Despite these contrasting opinions, the release has become one of the most discussed music events of the whole year.
As the amount of streams continues to grow, Drake’s release shows how he remains to be an influential figure in the music industry. Whether listeners enjoy all three albums, or even just one song, the release flew right to the top of the music industry’s radar.
