As the 2026 school year comes to an end, one of the highlights was the Spring Concert featuring the talented musicians of Ramapo. This year, the band showcased a diverse selection of pieces that left the crowd not only entertained, but inspired.
The concert opened the evening with an impressive array of pieces. Audiences enjoyed everything from the exciting rhythms of “Fandango” to the commanding and resonant tones of “Imperial March” and “Ascension.” Each piece required a high level of technical precision, which the student musicians delivered with remarkable confidence and energy.
A highlight of the evening was the Wind Ensemble’s performance, which quickly became one of the most talked-about moments. The ensemble tackled a deeply moving and emotional piece titled “Ghost Story.” The performance was so evocative that many audience members reported feeling genuinely moved by the haunting melodies and expressive dynamics.
Sophomore Mia Narula expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I was thrilled to be a part of the Wind Ensemble this year. We worked together to create an emotional performance of ‘Ghost Story’ by Randall Standridge. Everyone in the band plays at an extremely high level, and it’s fantastic to showcase our talents to an audience.”
Mr. Sloezen gave a special shoutout to a member of the band, stating, “Our principal flute player in the Wind Ensemble, Sarah Acosta, also performed a solo piece titled, “The Great Train Race,” by Ian Clarke. It has been considered as one of the most influential solo flute works of the late 20th century. It utilizes an array of extended techniques to create a vivid program of a steam train in motion. It is envisioned as a playful, energetic race between two proud steam trains that argue, challenge each other, and furiously speed up until they derail just before the finish line.”
On a more personal note, Mr. Sloezen added, “The Spring concert was definitely the highlight of my year with the music department. I had been saying all year how special the groups were this year, and they truly performed so well at the concert. Being a Ramapo Alumnus and having attended concerts before and after I graduated, this was definitely one of the best Ramapo concerts on many accounts!”
The choir also performed several Coldplay songs, leaving a lasting impact on the audience. Junior Ryan Conlon, who was a part of the choir, said, “Everyone did a great job, and I hope to see the same success next year!” Additionally, the orchestra performed elegant pieces, such as Eleanor Rigby, Four Royal Dances, Of Lochs and Thistles, and A Riverside Celebration.
The 2026 Spring Concert was a resounding success, serving as a testament to the dedication, passion, and immense talent of Ramapo’s student musicians. This memorable night of music not only celebrated their hard work but also left the community eagerly anticipating what these talented performers will achieve in the years to come.
