Since February 12th of this year, the wildly popular show following the relationship and tragic deaths of heartthrobs John F. Kennedy Junior and Carolyn Bessette have skyrocketed on screens across the world. The show brought the classic nostalgia of the ‘90s back to the minds of viewers, and the nation cannot get enough of it!
FX has stated that Love Story is the network’s most watched limited series of all time, and the overall audience grew by over 80% after the release of the Wedding episode (Deadline). Viewers were curious as to how the producer, Max Winkler, and showrunner, Connor Hines, would recreate this iconic event. The wedding took place on September 21, 2026 and was infamously a secret in an attempt to escape the influx of media and intense paparazzi they usually received (People Magazine). The wedding took place at Cumberland Island off the coast of Georgia, which was only accessible by boat (Vanity Fair).
In the show, the wedding episode is a major landmark in the relationship between John and Carolyn. Their relationship has been on the rocks with the constant flow of the media monitoring their every move and disapproval from their friends and families. Yet, they remain together. According to Deadline, “The company said that the Ryan Murphy-exec produced series has been watched for 40M hours across its six episodes in the U.S. and around the world.” The show has clearly skyrocketed with the amount of viewers it has garnered in such a short time. The show has taken over the media, one example being the “CBK Effect,” short for Carolyn Bessette Kennedy’s taking over Tik Tok, according to Fashion United (fashionunited.com). Carolyn’s classic 90’s fashion has been revived through her chic minimalism and elegant basics.
Here at Ramapo, Love Story has stolen the hearts of many viewers, one of them being Senior Ashley DeLeo. When asked what she thought of the show, Ashley stated, “I started watching the show because of Tik Tok, and it’s amazing! I’m not surprised with how popular it’s gotten.” Senior Alexa Davanzo was asked the same question and stated, “CBK’s class and timelessness were unmatched – something anyone would admire, but no one could replicate.”
