Read it Forward, Ramapo’s newest club, is bringing love and fostering community through the power of books. Created by juniors Katherine Kuhe and Isabella Lauretta, Read it Forward is a community service-based club where students can volunteer to read to different communities, including the elderly and schools in underprivileged areas. Other aspects of the club include book drives and fundraising opportunities, intending to support literacy and education across all communities. Katherine Kuhe shared, “I made this club to build connections. Being able to reach and connect to others through reading is a very unique form of communication that can be really powerful.”
Read it Forward held its very first meeting this month and is already off to a strong start with its first event on the horizon, where members will read to residents of Christian Health Care in Wyckoff. Read it Forward has already earned 50 new and excited members and plans to meet and introduce 1-2 volunteer opportunities each month.
Mrs. Garo, one of the advisors of Read it Forward, alongside Dr. Ross, shared that she believes this club will help foster literacy and a love for reading, as well as strengthen community bonds and help promote a culture of community service at Ramapo. When asked what advice she would give a student considering joining, Dr. Ross shared, “I would tell any student interested in joining to JOIN! […] It is a meaningful way to grow academically and socially while making a real difference in the community. The club provides leadership opportunities, will give a strong sense of purpose, and valuable service hours.”
Read it Forward, and the dedication of its founders and advisors truly demonstrates how the power of education and passion can work hand in hand to create a lasting impact. Join Read it Forward and help create meaningful change, one book at a time.
