The Golden Globes are a celebration of major film and television productions; this year, the competition is stacked high, and the talent is overwhelming from the impressive list of nominees. On Sunday, January 11th, 2026, the Golden Globes will be hosted by actress and stand-up comedian Nikki Glaser. The production will air for the fans, critics, and all viewers alike to enjoy. But for now, the list of nominees released on December 9th is the center of speculation.
The Golden Globes are often confused with the Oscars. However, the Oscars only honor film, and more intricate awards such as best sound effects or best costume design (wwd.com). While the Oscars are technically considered more prestigious, the Golden Globes are still an incredible honor, and the nominees are greatly appreciated for their incredible contributions to the film and television industry.
The Top Film Motion Picture nominees are the most anticipated among the other nominees. The Film One Battle After Another seems incredibly promising with a whopping nine nominations. The film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Teyana Taylor earned a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes (rottentomatoes.com). The film was honored with nominations such as Best Picture, Musical or Comedy, and Best Director. Closely following with eight nominations, the film Sentimental Value, starring Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgard, and Elle Fanning, has secured a star spot (goldenglobes.com). The film earned a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and seems a promising candidate. Other major films being recognized include Frankenstein and Hamnent.
While the movie Wicked: For Good is not being individually recognized, both Cinthia Erivo and Arianna Grande are major nominees for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture–Musical or Comedy, and Best Performance by a Female in a supporting role for any motion picture. Senior Emily Rolla says, “I’ve seen a lot of press about the new Wicked Movies, and I think both Arianna Grande and Cynthia Erivo are deserving of an award.” One of the youngest nominees is actor Owen Cooper, who starred in the Television Drama series Adolescence that caught the attention of the media right away (goldenglobes.com). The series was famous for each episode being shot in one take, capturing the authenticity and range of all the actors involved (variety.com). Senior Joan Carilli, who watched the show as soon as it came out states, “I thought it was very impressive how each episode was only shot in one take. The show definitely featured a lot of talent.” It is especially impressive that such a young actor has so much potential and an incredible range already.
The Golden Globes are sure to be a sensational ceremony this January, and all of the nominees have worked incredibly hard to get to the point they are at today.
