The Class of 2026 kicked off their final year at Ramapo High School with the annual Senior Sunrise at 6:30 a.m. on Friday, September 26th, at the Drew Gibbs Memorial Field. Students wore their Class of 2026 shirts while enjoying donuts for breakfast. A group photo captured the entire class, creating a memorable keepsake to mark the start of their last year at Ramapo.
In the days leading up to the event, rainy and humid weather had cast doubt on whether the sunrise could be seen. Yet on the morning of the event, the skies cleared, surprising both students and staff. As the sun rose over the trees, it provided a striking and memorable backdrop, giving seniors a quiet moment to pause and enjoy the start of the day together. “I really enjoyed the senior sunrise! It was nice to be with all of my friends to watch such a beautiful sunrise. I think it was a great start to senior year!” said senior Emma Sanchez. The peaceful atmosphere and clear skies fostered a sense of unity among students, many noting how special it felt to have the weather cooperate after several days of rain.
The event was made possible with support from the PTA and the class advisors, Ms. Biunno and Ms. Deamer, who set up the field, coordinated breakfast, and ensured that the sunrise ran smoothly. Ms. Biunno promoted the event through social media, Schoology, and the district website. As class advisor, she heads the social media presence and communication with the senior class. Managing and organizing all class events is her biggest responsibility alongside Ms. Deamer.
“My favorite part of Senior Sunrise was getting to experience Ramapo in a new setting,” she said. “Typically, I am only on campus during the school day. It was cool being able to watch the sunrise and take in the beauty of it.” Beyond Senior Sunrise, Ms. Biunno reflected on what she enjoys most about her position as class advisor. “I love being class advisor because I get to plan different events for the class,” she said. “My favorite moment that I am looking forward to is graduation. It is such a monumental day, and I’m glad I get to help make it happen.” She also expressed excitement for upcoming senior events, including the class trip in January and Senior Prom at The Legacy Castle.
The event was more than just an early morning gathering: it gave students the chance to connect with friends, celebrate the start of their senior year, and reflect on their time at Ramapo. As the Class of 2026 watched the sunrise together, it symbolized the beginning of a year filled with milestones, memories, and moments that will mark the end of their high school journey.
