Rows of tables and eager students filled the hallways between the cafeteria and gym during the lunch block on October 1st. Tri-folds full of information were a common sight, and students lined up to hear what people had to say. What was this? None other than the Clubs and Activities Fair.
The Clubs and Activities Fair, or simply the Club Fair, is hosted by the Student Government at the beginning of each school year. Each club is assigned a small section of a table, which the club’s officers can decorate however they would like. Many used tri-folds to convey information, while others, like the Swell Club, had large displays full of flyers and fun trinkets to take. The officers, standing behind the tables, were eager to tell students about what their club has to offer, encouraging them to write down their contact information and get involved. The Club Fair allows all students to learn about the extracurricular activities that Ramapo has to offer, and for clubs to gain attention. Lucy Volfson and Lindsay Shoiock, two student leaders of the Jewish Culture Club, commented that “the Club Fair is a great way for our club to reach out and expand while also raising awareness.” The Fair benefits both students and the clubs themselves; without it, many students may be unaware of the existence of certain clubs, miss out on great opportunities, and clubs could miss out on dedicated members. Mrs. Ferro, who played a large part in organizing the Fair, was asked about its purpose, remarking that “the idea of a Club Fair is a staple in almost any high school or college community. The easy answer to its purpose is that it allows each group to showcase what they do and solicit membership. For me, the bonus is that it raises awareness about all the amazing opportunities we offer at Ramapo and increases school spirit.”

The Club Fair is a win-win for everyone involved–clubs gain recognition, while students are made aware of opportunities. It helps to shape the student body and, in turn, make Ramapo the school that it is today.
