On March 15th, Justin Timberlake released Everything I Thought It Was, his sixth studio recorded album and most recent release since Man of The Woods in 2018. Along with his new album, Timberlake released a meaningful and catchy single, “Selfish” which is believed to be about his marriage with his current wife, Jessica Biel. The two have been happily married since 2012 and have two children together, Silas, age eight, and Phinneas, age three.

Everything I Thought It Was has been a popular subject across all news channels and entertainment outlets because Timberlake refrained from releasing music for six years. It seems that Justin Timberlake was extremely dedicated and motivated while producing this album because of the deep meanings behind his words, catchy lyrics, and captivating tunes.

Justin Timberlake is most known for his memorable songs “Rock Your Body,” “SexyBack,” “Cry Me a River,” and “Mirrors” along with many other tracks. His songs have been and will always be notable because of the moments in entertainment history we correlate them with.

Justin Timberlake’s whole solo career has been defined by his love of vintage soul sounds including the voices and lyrical uniqueness of artists such as Al Green, Donny Hathaway, and Stevie Wonder (apple.com). Everything I Thought It Was is just another album that clearly expresses his love for this genre of music and portrays deep consideration.

Currently on Spotify, his new hit single “Selfish” has been streamed 61 million times and is his most popular song in the rankings (Spotify.com). In fact, it has reached charts in 36 countries. In the United States, the single debuted at number 19 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Justin Timberlake’s highest debut in six years (Wikipedia.com).

Sophomore Kyra Magerko says, “I listened to the album a week ago and I really enjoyed it. The genre is completely different and unique compared to the other songs he has released.” Although Timberlake has started exploring a different taste of music he still is able to bring his all and release works that are enjoyed by the majority.

Ramapo French teacher Dr. Barreau enjoys listening to French music in addition to English hits and often shares his new discoveries with his students. He says, “Justin Timberlake is an artist that we all know and love, his new songs are definitely some of his best works!”

It seems that Justin Timberlake’s new album will continue to be a hot topic due to the abundance of positive reviews in the online realm. Recently, Timberlake’s older songs have been taken off the shelves and started gaining popularity on social media including TikTok, only increasing the buzz about his new releases. Give his new album a listen! Everything I Thought It Was might turn out to be everything you ever needed.
