If you grew up watching iCarly, you are going to be very happy to hear that filming has just begun for a movie continuation! Miranda Cosgrove, who plays the show’s main character, Carly Shay, told Entertainment Weekly, “It’s being written, which is really exciting. And it looks like it’s happening.”
Ramapo junior Isabella Leoce, who grew up watching iCarly, also expresses her excitement, saying, “I had no idea they were making a movie! I’m so excited. I’ve been a long-time fan of the TV show! It was literally my entire childhood. I’m so psyched for the movie!”
First premiering in 2007, iCarly became an immediate hit among young audiences, perfectly encapsulating the absurd humor of the 2000s and 2010s. The show revolves around Carly Shay, a young teenage girl living with her older brother Spencer. Along with her friends Sam Puckett and Freddie Benson, Carly rises to internet stardom thanks to their web show “iCarly.” The Nickelodeon TV series was an instant success. Its appeal was rooted in its utilization of the decade’s new technology craze: YouTube. (BusinessInsider.com). With the streaming platform being founded just two years prior, teens could now enjoy a fresh show catered to the relevant trends of the time.
The original show ended in 2012 after six seasons. In 2021, however, Paramount+ rebooted the series with the entire original cast, except for Jennette McCurdy (Sam Puckett). It ran for three seasons until its cancellation in 2023. Much to the fans’ surprise, the show ended on a cliffhanger, teasing the appearance of Carly’s and Spencer’s mother. She abandoned them when they were young and had thus never been shown on screen. “We don’t know who’s going to play the mom character yet,” Miranda Cosgrove told Entertainment Weekly, “but she’s going to be a big part of the movie…We’re just excited to start it and actually film.” Fans are anxiously awaiting the big reveal.
Sophomore Amanda Gregory, a huge iCarly fan, shares, “I’m intrigued and excited! I love iCarly. I’ve watched all of iCarly and the new reboot. I think that this movie will be bad if they make it badly, but if they put a lot of effort into it, it will be good.”
On The Drew Barrymore Show, Cosgrove explained that filming is expected to begin next year (USAToday.com). Given the time of filming, the movie will likely be released on Netflix either late 2026 or early 2027. So, it is time to wake up the members of the iCarly nation in 5…4…3…2…
