Senior Kacie Gmiterek has spent her last four years at Ramapo High School involved and active in the Raider community as a hard-working leader and valuable team member on the Girls Basketball team. Kacie has been playing for the team throughout all four of her years at Ramapo and has been on varsity since her sophomore year. This season, she was a starter, aiding the team to many victories throughout the last couple of months. Kacie made a strong impact as a shooting guard, showcasing her sharpshooting ability by knocking down 29 three-pointers this season. Her consistent scoring, averaging five points per game, provided a reliable offensive spark for the team. Beyond her stats, Kacie’s ability to spread the defense and create scoring opportunities has made her an essential part of the Raider offense.
“She was a good leader for our younger kids,” said Coach Gordon, one of the head coaches of Ramapo’s Girls Basketball team. Kacie is the epitome of an inclusive and encouraging team player.
Kacie has been playing basketball since she was seven years old and has picked up numerous valuable lessons from the sport. “Learning how to be a teammate and a leader are two values that were instilled in me from Ramapo Girls Basketball and will definitely help me in my future,” she says.
This season the Girls Basketball team did lots of team bonding experiences and focused on the team dynamic. Kacie says, “My teammates make the season and the sport the most special. Our strong bond off the court not only makes the season more fun, but it makes us better as a team.” Her favorite team memory was an away game at Riverdell, which she describes as their “best win of the season” and says they “played really well together.” She comments on the team’s road trip: “We all traveled in comfies to the game and I think that’s why we played so well and had such a great win.”
Kacie has learned many life lessons during her time on the Ramapo Girls Basketball team that will stick with her and help guide her throughout her life, especially in college and as an early adult. Kacie said, “My coach, from the first day I walked in as a freshman, made it very clear that we are playing for the name on the front of the jersey and not the name on the back. That constant reminder that we were playing for each other and not for ourselves was the best lesson I learned.”
This fall, Kacie will be heading to Villanova where she will be furthering her academic career studying business law. While her basketball journey at Ramapo is coming to an end, we know she will continue to embody the dedication, leadership, and spirit that made her a role model on and off the court. We wish you all the best, Kacie, and can’t wait to see all you accomplish at Villanova and beyond!
