It’s that time of year again! The 98th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade took place on Thanksgiving Day, broadcasting from 8:30 a.m. until noon. With beautiful floats, exciting performances, and beloved giant balloons, the parade is a tradition that brings families together to get in the holiday spirit. As the streets filled with excitement and the air came alive with festivities, this year’s parade was a memorable event!
This year, there were 22 balloons, including Disney’s Minnie Mouse, Spider-Man, and Marshall from Paw Patrol. The parade featured 34 floats, with highlights such as Candy Cosmos, Dora’s Fantastical Rainforest, and Magic Meets the Sea—just a few of the new additions for 2024. Additionally, there were 11 marching bands and 28 clown crews (Macy’s). While the balloons and floats were exciting, the performances were the most anticipated part of the parade. This year’s lineup included Bishop Briggs, Kylie Cantrall, Chlöe, Jimmy Fallon & The Roots, Idina Menzel, Alex Warren, and Charli D’Amelio (Today.com).
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has become a memorable tradition for many families. Parents and children alike wake up buzzing with excitement to turn on the TV, while others travel from near and far to secure a good viewing spot. English teacher Mrs. Manzo shares her experience with the parade: “I have been lucky enough to have tickets to the Macy’s grandstand for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade twice in the last few years. We arrive in the city very early, and look around knowing that everyone who is up at 6 AM on Thanksgiving Day is going to the parade or somehow preparing for the parade. There is definitely excitement in the air, anticipating the balloons, floats, performances and marching bands. As the displays come by, people cheer for their favorite balloons and performers. It’s really a great way to start the Thanksgiving holiday. When I can’t be there live, I record the parade on my DVR and start watching an hour after it begins so I can fast forward through all the commercials!”
Sophomore Emma Mattioli shares, “I always loved Thanksgiving. My family will wake up early just to check what floats there are. While we prepare for the busy day, it’s nice to have something playing in the background.”
