Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS tour has brought the pop star’s smash hits from New York to Mexico City, and now, to your own living room! On October 29th, the highly anticipated Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour film was released on Netflix. The nearly two-hour-long film brings Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS World Tour to people’s homes.
The concert is a spectacular blend of the gritty energy and exhilaration of a rock concert, with elements of the choreographed dances and glamor of a pop concert. “The movie is lots of fun. I would absolutely recommend it,” says Ramapo senior, Keira Duffy. Whether she is dancing a choreographed routine, screaming into a microphone, or belting a piano ballad, Olivia Rodrigo is a talented entertainer who keeps audiences entranced. The movie features an electrifying range of performances and emotions, with Rodrigo performing her own hit songs such as “Vampire” and “Driver’s License,” as well as stunning performances from Rodrigo’s dancers and band. The film even includes a duet of the song “Hot to Go” with the concert’s opener, Chappell Roan.
Concert movies have become increasingly popular as of late. The Eras Tour by Taylor Swift, or Renaissance by Beyoncé, both became smash hits among fans and casual viewers alike. Releasing a filmed version of shows is a great way for artists to immortalize successful tours and allow fans who weren’t able to attend to get a taste of the fun. In an interview with Variety, Rodrigo said that she was “excited by the idea that people who maybe weren’t able to get a ticket who wanted to come to the show could finally watch it.” (Variety). Victoria Acunto, a Ramapo senior, mentioned, “I saw the movie, and it made me wish I was able to attend her concert, but I appreciate that she made a movie for those who couldn’t go”
When asked what’s next for her, the singer claimed that “I’m pretty tired after this tour. I’m really excited to just kind of take a break and gather inspiration, because it’s fun for me, and not put any pressure on it for a little bit. I mean, I’m always cooking stuff up … but trying to keep it low-pressure” (Variety). The GUTS World Tour wrapped up in Sydney, Australia back in late October (Glamour). What’s next for Olivia Rodrigo is a mystery, but for now, we can enjoy the end of the GUTS era with this stunning film.
