It’s that time of year again! The election results, thanksgiving preparation, and everyone’s favorite event: People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive. This year, it’s actor and filmmaker John Krasinski, most famous for his role of ‘Jim’ in The Office.
While the public may have been shocked by the receiver of the award, no one was more baffled than Krasinski himself. His initial reaction was that he was being pranked and, “just immediate blackout, actually. Zero thoughts” (AP News). Krasinski also stated that he would get a lot of jokes at home from his family and friends, specifically his brothers (AP News). He also said that this achievement would ultimately grant him, “more household chores” from his wife (AP News).
Besides his role as the beloved Jim from The Office, he is also famous for his role as Tom Clancy in the amazon hit Jack Ryan and starring in The Quiet Place. Krasninski lives with his wife Emily Blunt, and their two daughters just outside of Boston, Massachusetts (Hello Magazine).
Some people believe that this award was well deserved, while others seemed a little puzzled. It is argued that the award should have been given to Krasinki a decade ago when he was “in his prime” during the airing of The Office (Rolling Stone Magazine). The award was reportedly tied to his role in the children’s movie IF that Krasinski starred and wrote, however the film only received mediocre reviews (Rolling Stone Magazine).
Especially amongst the media, there is a clear divide between these results. Some are confused as to why other popular movie stars like Glenn Powell or Paul Mescal weren’t chosen. One X statement even said “ John Krasinski is People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2024……. Another devastating Tuesday night in November” (Rolling Stone Magazine). However, there have been multiple posts on social media apps like TikTok, and Instagram defending Krasinski, saying that he was well deserving of this award.
Junior Emma Ufakacar states her opinion on whether or not Krasinski is worthy of this title, “I think that he is definitely attractive but I feel like for this year especially with all the new, relevant actors, people magazine could’ve chosen someone more suitable for the attention.”
Junior Kirsten Seyffer states, “I feel like the decision sort of came out of left field, since he hasn’t been a major part of pop culture for a while now, but good for him!”
Even though the public is torn on this year’s winner of Sexiest Man Alive, all that matters is that Krasinski and his family can enjoy the many laughs to come from this honor.
