As you may have heard, Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) has made headlines across every platform. DWTS’s 33rd season aired on September 17, 2024, highlighting a variety of personalities from every angle. The audience’s favorite judges – Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli – have all returned and fans are excited!
Contestants are as follows: Danny Amendola (Former NFL Wide Receiver), Anna Sorokin – aka Anna Delvey (Con Artist), Joey Graziadei (Tennis Instructor/The Bachelor TV Star), Dwight Howard (Professional Basketball Player), Chandler Kinney (Actress & Singer), Ilona Maher (Rugby Player), Brooks Nader (Model), Stephen Nedoroscik (Olympic Gymnast), Phaedra Parks (Reality TV Star/Lawyer/Mortician), Eric Roberts (Actor), Tori Spelling (Actor/Reality TV Star), Jenn Tran (Physicians Assistant/Grad Student/Reality TV Star) and Reginald VelJohnson (Actor) (Cosmopolitan.com).
This season features a new type of protocol which may surprise viewers. It was revealed that, unlike previous years, they will allow the audience to view the number of votes for their favorite celebrity. It was disclosed that Tori Spelling received more than 14 million fan votes, the most received on a single episode in series history, per deadline.com. However, she was eliminated from the competition during the second episode of the season, as the first episode did away with eliminations.
Furthermore, fans and news channels constantly discussed Anna Sorokin. NBC News was quick to report that she and Spelling were eliminated after Sorokin performed a quickstep routine with her partner Ezra Sosa — her court-issued ankle monitor in full view — to KT Tunstall’s “Suddenly I See.” The week prior, she performed a cha-cha dance to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” and scored 18 out of 30 possible points.
“It felt like I was never really given a fair chance by the viewers or some of the judges given their nonsensical scoring,” Sorokin said. “It’s supposed to be a dance competition and not a popularity contest” (NBC News).
Afterward, the show’s co-host Julianne Hough asked what Sorokin would take away from the experience.
“Nothing,” she responded before laughing.
Sorokin’s “nothing” comment has traveled across news channels and social media as many feel she was unappreciative of the experience. Ramapo senior, Victoria Acunto, commented, “Hearing the news about Anna Delvey’s comment that she learned ‘nothing’ from DWTS, I was both surprised and disappointed. As a dancer, I have always ensured that I gained something from each class, whether it was learning a new technique or even just stretching farther than before. However, I can understand her frustration after facing rejection and I’m sure that she will at least be able to look back at her time dancing and appreciate the memories she made.”
In addition, Ms. Micheles, an English teacher, expressed, “We learn and grow from every experience – bad or good. To me, it is surprising that she couldn’t think of any takeaways.”
We can gather that Anna Delvey’s comment was not looked highly upon. Hopefully, she can find gratitude in her next venture.
