There are no words to describe how well Renaissance: A film by Beyoncé portrayed all the blood, sweat, and tears that Beyoncé went through to be the pop sensation she is today. The sensibilities and the chills I felt while watching it made me second guess what I’m doing with my life. The way the film made me feel like I was right there along with her during her journey is a sentiment that I would not be able to convey. I cried, I laughed, I cheered, I smiled. The Renaissance: A film by Beyoncé, is most certainly something you should watch before the New Year hits.
The Renaissance tour, which started on May 10th, 2023 in Stockholm was an utterly amazing 31-song setlist that featured songs from Beyoncé’s Renaissance album along with her top hits. Millions of her fans have bought tickets to see her concert until the end date of her tour on October 1st, 2023. For five months on tour, 2.7 million people attended. The tour has earned up to $500 million, according to Billboard. The film came out December 1st, after many years in the making. The film’s description according to the Portland Press Herald says, “It is about Beyoncé’s intention, hard work, involvement in every aspect of the production, her creative mind and purpose to create her legacy, and master her craft.”
The way the film messes with your emotions makes it even more captivating to watch. It consists of many clips from the concert with all her different costumes and dances. According to The New York Times, “after the [film] revealed itself to be both a face-warping concert movie […] This movie wants to convey a great deal about the woman who made it.” In the film, Beyoncé brings her past struggles and accomplishments with her present ones. When she showed how her dad sewed all her very first fashionable outfits when she was in Destiny’s Child, I cried. She took the time to portray all the people in her life that she was grateful for getting her to the woman she is today. In the film, she turns 42, and she expresses her gratitude for how she keeps changing her mindset as she gets older. Mr. Nangle, a history teacher at Ramapo High School states, “Queen B? I think she is a very talented singer and songwriter.” Beyoncé will always be an amazing inspiration, especially to younger dancers who look up to her daughter Blue Ivy Carter who also starred in the film. Isabella Rutigliano, a freshman at Ramapo High School states, “The movie was really inspiring, the songs were so fun to listen to in the movie with my friend.”
Although the movie is 2 hours and 50 minutes long, it’s worth every second because when you leave that movie theater, you truly are a new person.
