On Monday October 4, Ramapo High School hosted its annual club fair in the media center during all lunch periods. All of Ramapo’s approved clubs gathered in the media center to show off all the unique activities and opportunities available to the student body at Ramapo.

Each club was given a display table, where they were able to have presentations to show prospective students the activities that each club partakes in. The selection of clubs were limitless–everything from Debate Club, to Backyard Sports club were present. The wide array of clubs created the perfect environment for students to express their existing interests–and even discover new one’s.

Mr. Basili, english teacher, and advisor to two Ramapo clubs explains the importance of the club fair: “…As the advisor to Interact (a community service club) and the Junior State of America (a national junior government/politics club), I was excited to have both represented there [The Club Fair]. The leaders of each club sat at designated tables with flyers, information, and even candy, to let people know what each club was all about and even have new members join the Schoology groups there on the spot. It was a great opportunity for everyone to not only see all the clubs available at Ramapo, but to also be aware of just how involved so many of their peers are, which hopefully encouraged them to be more engaged and find their own place to thrive and contribute. Clubs are an amazing part of a high school’s fabric that offer students an outlet to express themselves and find a home within their larger school community.”

The club fair opens the door to so many opportunities that may seem daunting to students at first. That is why the goal of Ramapo’s club fair is to create a comfortable environment for students to discover new interests, and research activities that interest them.

Gian Brar, President of The Computer Science Club, explains the importance of the club fair, and a sneak peak of what Computer Science Club is all about: “At Computer Science Club, we love to host a wide array of coding lessons and programming puzzles, but the skill barrier can make some people hesitant to join. The club fair gives us–and essentially any club that might seem intimidating to some students–the perfect opportunity to pitch our club in a welcoming, no pressure atmosphere with fun activities. Plus, the free candy is pretty cool.”

The club fair is especially important to those who are new to Ramapo, specifically transfer students, and the freshmen class.

Freshmen Anas Azizogli explains what he gained from the club fair: “Being a new student at Ramapo, navigating the options of extracurricular activities was daunting, however, the club fair allowed me to explore all the different options in one spot.”
