Known for her determination, leadership, and positive mindset, Megan Twomey is a remarkably talented soccer player on the Ramapo team. Her combination between ball control and a rocket of a shot makes her one of the greatest offensive players in Bergen County and the leading goal scorer of the team. From scoring hattricks to flying headers, Twomey is always dependable when it comes to goal scoring. With the loudest voice on the field, she leads the team in connecting passes while going to the goal.
“She is a hard worker and passionate player with tremendous foot skills and shooting power,” says Ramapo Varsity Coach, Maddie Gibbs.
Megan began her soccer career at the age of 7. She was inspired to begin this sport by her mother, a Ramapo girl’s soccer alum. She was also interested in the sport because she loved the idea of the comradery and team spirit that comes with soccer.
“When I was younger, my parents bought me a soccer ball for my birthday. Ever since then, I would juggle for hours in my basement until I beat my personal record,” says Twomey.
Twomey’s determination is evident through her progression of teams over the years. After dominating the Oakland Recreational soccer fields, she later joined the RYSA Wildcats during her elementary school years. These were the years when she excelled above all other players her age and realized she has pure talent. Entering middle school, Megan joined a local club team called FC Crush where she continued to learn and progress her skills. Now in high school, she plays for the prestigious, World Class Academy team that travels all over the country to play at many high-level tournaments. In terms of her success here at Ramapo, Megan was pulled up to the varsity team her sophomore year and has contributed greatly each season. For her senior season, Twomey has been named captain, notably for her vocalness on the field and her fun-spirited personality. This year, she has led the team to many successes. The team record stands at 10 wins and 2 losses, where Megan has scored many of the winning goals for the team. They have made it to the quarter-finals this year in counties and will be entering states as well.
In terms of personal accolades, in her junior year, Megan received First Team All-Conference, First Team All-County, and First Team All-League. By NJ.com, she was dubbed Offensive Player of the Week, Top 100 Juniors in NJ, and Top 25 Goal Scorers in Bergen County. Her impressive statistics include that she had 13 goals and 7 assists in her junior year. This year, just halfway into the season, Megan has had 11 goals and 9 assists. She is a candidate for Midfielder of the Year and she is in the running for Player of the Week and All-American.
Twomey is not just a soccer star. Her passion for the game blends with her passion for the community. On weekends, she helps referee the local recreational soccer league. She is also a stellar student and member of the girl’s flag football team, where she has scored many touchdowns as a wide receiver.
Megan has been preparing for her future soccer career, where she will be playing at the collegiate D1 level at Seton Hall University. Through weight training, cardio exercise, and hours of traveling to tournaments, Megan will be ready to thrive in this high-level environment.
Twomey recalls her years here at Ramapo stating, “I made some of the best memories through Ramapo soccer and I am extremely upset that my time will have to come to an end. I wish the best of luck to my teammates and the underclassmen in hopefully bringing home more future titles.”
