As Ramapo’s spring sports come to an end and seniors leave their lasting footprints on their prospective teams, there is one person in particular to remember on the Boys Volleyball team: Daniel (Danny) Franzen. He has and continues to bring so much talent, commitment, and dedication to the team that truly makes him a standout player.
Danny plays for DIGS Volleyball Club on the 18 Red team, where he has traveled to locations including Atlantic City, Connecticut, Long Island, and Pennsylvania to compete against the best in tournaments. For this team, he has played both middle blocker and right-side hitter. This year alone for Ramapo, within 43 sets, he has had 74 kills, 18 blocks, 24 digs, 4 assists, and 18 aces (NJ.com). He has helped the boys in the 2024-25 season win 18 out of 20 games and become the 2025 Bergen North Freedom League champions. They are still participating in states as the #1 seed, where they will experience great success without any doubt in our minds. They will play Garfield (the #4 seed) on Wednesday, June 4 in the semifinals.
The Ramapo Boys Volleyball team has faced great success, and Danny has without a doubt had an impact on it. “Danny has had a tremendous impact on the boys varsity team this year,” Coach Van Hook states. “Danny brings high energy, experience, confidence, and consistency into every practice and game. Not only did Danny improve each day, he made the boys around him play at another level. Thomas More is very lucky to have him on their team.”
Ramapo Boys Volleyball has played a major part in both Danny’s improvement and overall enjoyment of the sport. He says, “To me, it was a home and a place I could do what I love most. Freshman year was my first year playing at a higher competitive level, and I couldn’t have imagined it with any other team. As for what I leave behind, I want to prove to the next year’s team that they can also push and win league champs as well.”
He will continue to play volleyball at Thomas More University, a Division 1 school. He will major in Environmental Science. “In college, I look forward to a higher level of competition… and I’m looking forward to meeting my new teammates,” Danny comments.
We can say with absolute certainty that Danny will excel at TMU in both the athletic and academic fields. He will be a great player who will serve as a crucial part of the team, which he clearly did here at Po! We wish you the best of luck, Danny!
