This year’s spring musical, Xanadu, tells the story of love, laughter, and of course, roller skating discos. Created by Douglas Carter Beane, Xanadu is the fantastical story of the Greek muse Clio as she journeys from Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, California, in the 1950s, with the mission of helping a struggling artist, Sonny, create the first Roller Disco! An unlikely romance sparks…and chaos ensues!
Members of GoldMasque spent countless hours rehearsing and spent an unimaginable number of late nights perfecting their roles, costumes, and choreography. None of this would have been possible without its fantastic director, Rebecca Corrado, and the other amazing staff members who worked tirelessly to create an amazing set, beautiful music, and stunning choreography. Kathrine Kuhe, a current sophomore at Ramapo who played the role of the muse Terpiscore, commented, “I had so much fun working on Xanadu! The whole cast put so much effort into the production, and I’m so proud of how it turned out.” Mr Sloezen, Ramapo’s band teacher, shared a similar enthusiasm towards the performance. He said, “ The production was Gold Masque’s usual of stellar casting, impressive vocals, and professional-looking sets. Each number truly left an impression as it forced the cast to perform some truly demanding vocals while delivering comedically timed lines. There were more than a few laugh-out-loud moments as the cast had obviously put their all into embodying their characters and the time period.”
This hilarious and colorful musical was yet another hit for the GoldMasque team, marking a particularly bittersweet moment as the seniors of the class of 2025 performed one last time in Ramapo’s auditorium. Marisa Colangelo, a current senior who starred as Clio, shared, “I’m so beyond grateful that I got to spend my high school years with GoldMasque! I can’t wait to come back and see the shows next year!” Marisa will be attending James Madison University in the fall. Other graduating seniors include Edward Tappan as Danny Maguire, Jenelyn Validiva as Hera, Jack Garris as Hermes, and Julia Drob as both Andrew’s sister and Thetis. We wish you all the best of luck and congratulations on a fantastic final show!!
