As the winter season continues and Ramapo’s sports teams play more games and participate in competitions, Avery Orlando is a name to be remembered in cheerleading. Being a varsity cheerleader on both the football and competition squads, she has shown unmatched talent, kindness, determination, and leadership skills.
Starting as a flyer during her freshman year in the center stunt group, she has grown tremendously. Avery won the Outstanding Freshman award in 2022 and also received one of the Big North All-Conference Awards her sophomore season. However, in her junior year, she faced a big switch; instead of a flyer, she became a base for the center stunt group and continued in this position her senior year. “Coming from someone who was always a flyer, she picked up quickly,” says Coach Sam of the Varsity football and competition cheer teams.
Since joining the cheer program, Avery has become not only an asset to the team’s overall performance, but an inspiration for the girls to look up to as she leaves the end of her senior year. “As I have cheered at Ramapo I have learned new skills of leadership, hard work, and grew my own confidence while doing the sport I love the most and making the greatest of friends along the way,” says Avery. “My time on the cheerleading team has been the highlight of my high school experience and has shaped me into the person I am today.”
“She is a true leader and never backs down from a challenge,” Coach Sam comments. “Avery is kind, honest, dedicated, and one of the best athletes I have had the pleasure to coach in my 5 years at Ramapo. She has been an asset to the team since she joined in the fall of 2021 and she will truly be missed on RHSVC!”
No matter where Avery chooses to go to college or what career path she pursues, we know that she will continue to show the determination, kindness, and leadership that RHSVC looked up to during her time at Ramapo. We wish you the best of luck no matter what you do and can’t wait to see what you accomplish, Avery!
