The Ramapo High School community honored one of its most beloved students, Jenelyn Valdivia with the prestigious Bergen County “Unsung Hero” Award. This annual recognition commemorates students who epitomize qualities of dedication, kindness, and overall positivity. This year, Jenelyn stood out amongst her peers and has demonstrated a willingness to help in whatever capacity necessary. Her commitment to excellence in her community and never ending strive to make Ramapo High School a better place has made Jenelyn Bergen County’s 2025 Unsung Hero. Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of meeting Jenny knows that she brightens the community with her infectious smile and laughter, earning the admiration of both her teachers and peers for her devotion to helping others.
She states, “When I first won the award, I thought it must have been a mistake. I was truly just in awe that I had managed to make a noticeable difference for someone, let alone a whole school.” Jenelyn mentioned later in the interview that she is honored to have received this role and she wants to thank the students and staff for their generosity. Jenelyn is a member of Gold Masque and whether she’s on the stage or helping out backstage, she contributes 100% of her efforts into making the plays the best they can be. She is also a part of the choir at Ramapo, using her voice to shine brighter than ever.
In an interview with Ramapo’s choir director, Mrs. Reitter, she states, “Jenelyn’s positive attitude and energy has a positive impact on everyone she interacts with. She is never afraid to ask for help, to look silly, or to reach out to someone to make them feel welcome. She is one of the most genuine students with the kindest hearts I’ve seen in all my years at Ramapo.” Jenelyn has provided support for the Ramapo High School community without the expectation of being rewarded for her kind deeds. By granting her this respected award, Jenelyn Valdivia will participate in the 2025 Bergen County Unsung Hero Awards Ceremony, which will take place on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025, in the Anna Maria Ciccone Theatre at Bergen Community College in Paramus.
