Following her remarkable world tour, The Eras Tour, famous singer Taylor Swift made a movie about it titled Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour. The movie premiered on October 13, 2023, and seats quickly sold out in theaters everywhere. It was the perfect option for Swift’s fans, who call themselves Swifties, who were unable to attend the real concert due to the limited availability of seats and expensive ticket resales. The record-shattering movie was a huge success, grossing $92.8 million on its opening weekend alone.
The movie was almost an exact replica of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concerts, featuring the same outfits and even most of the same songs. Fans felt like they were at the concert, even getting up and dancing in the theater while the movie played. “I thought it was such a good film and I was entertained the whole time. It felt like I was there in the stadium,” Ramapo freshman Lilly Mulhern remarked. Ms. Casey, a member of Ramapo’s English department, went to see the film with her sister: “I’ve been a fan of Taylor Swift for years but have yet to see her in concert. This was a perfect opportunity to get a realistic taste of what seeing her perform would be like, and now I’m even more determined to go to one of her live shows!”
The Eras Tour began on March 17, 2023, in Glendale, California and will continue into late 2024, providing almost two years of runtime. It was named after Swift’s ten albums, or “eras,” ranging from Taylor Swift, which premiered in 2006, to her most recent album, Midnights, which came out in 2022. Many Swifties attending The Eras Tour dressed up as their favorite albums, wearing special colors and styles to correctly display their chosen album. They also made friendship bracelets based on their favorite albums and songs and traded them with other Swifties they encountered at the concert. Likewise, many moviegoers who watched Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour dressed in similar attire, acting as if it were the real concert. Some even traded friendship bracelets with the staff of the movie theater they attended.
During each night of The Eras Tour, Swift sang a whopping forty-four of her songs along with two surprise songs, providing over three hours of runtime. Meanwhile, the runtime of the movie is only two hours and forty-nine minutes because of the quicker transitions and songs cut from the setlist. During the real concert, fans would have to wait for things such as Swift’s outfit changes in between songs, while in the movie, those transitioning moments could be edited out. Swifties are not exactly sure why some songs were cut from the setlist, but they were upset to discover that some of their favorite songs that were sung at the concert were not played in the movie. Overall, the movie’s outcome perfectly resembles Swift’s talent and loyal fanbase because of its massive success.
