The University of Southern California’s Upcoming Stars

Southern California in NCAA Basketball is in for a treat! College basketball fans were already shocked to hear of Lebron James’ son, Bronny James, but now they have another star athlete’s son joining the roster. The Trojans are happy to now welcome D.J. Rodman, son of Dennis Rodman, into their season of 2023-24.

“I truly think that these two players are not only going to contribute athletically in their performance, but also bring a lot of attention to the team. I can’t imagine how many fans will be watching them play,” says Lawrence Neuburger, sophomore at Ramapo

Bronny James, a 6-foot-3 guard born in Cleveland, Ohio, is considered one of the top five greatest point guards in the nation (ESPN). As the son of basketball prospect Lebron James, he faced an exorbitant amount of pressure on where he would commit; USC seems to be a perfect fit for him, and his commitment makes his father proud. “Congratulations to my son on his next Journey, on picking a great university. I’m proud of him,” says Lebron James. He averaged 13.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.8 steals in his senior year of high school at Sierra Canyon School. He also received the title of McDonald’s All-American and competed in the Nike Hoop Summit for Team USA (LA Times). USC can expect great things from this player, and a huge advantage to the team overall.

Considered Bronny James’ equal, D.J. Rodman, a 6-foot-6 forward, played his last four seasons at Washington State University. However, Rodman continues his athletic career by taking advantage of the new NCAA rule – he has an extra year of eligibility to play college basketball due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He averaged 9.6 points and 5.8 rebounds during the 30 of 31 games he started for while playing for the Cougars last season (LA Times).

“I think that it will be so fun to watch,” says Coach Anzano, a staff member of Ramapo. “I am really excited to see them play this upcoming season.”

USC last season had 22 wins and 11 losses, with their third-straight year of making it to the NCAA Tournament. They lost in the first round to Michigan State with a score of 72-62 (ESPN). We can only assume that these statistics will improve as these two children of basketball stars come onto the court. Watch out, NCAA. USC is ready and prepared to win!
